Some songs are born out of craft. This one was born out of a dream that took years to come true.
On May 29, Christian singer-songwriter Stephen Stanley released the new version of "Idols" - now featuring Colton Dixon - and the moment clearly meant everything to him. Alongside the release, Stanley posted on Facebook with a caption that stopped fans mid-scroll: "If I showed 15 year old me this video, he would probably cry."
The teaser post the day before already pulled in 5,800 reactions and over 200 shares before the song even dropped - a sign that Stanley's audience knew something special was coming.
Georgia native Stephen Stanley is a Capitol CMG artist known for pairing earworm melodies with potent lyrics. His 2023 debut album Divided Frame of Mind produced the fan-favorite radio single "Rest in the Father." Colton Dixon - Stanley's childhood hero and now his collaborator - has been a fixture in Christian music since his breakthrough on American Idol.
The original "Idols" was written from a place of deep surrender. The song opens as a raw confession about chasing things that don't last, building to a desperate plea: "Kill my idols / I'm losing life."
With Dixon's voice now woven into that lyric, the collaboration carries even more weight - two artists at different points in their faith journeys, united by the same honest cry.
The single is out now on all streaming platforms.
