Country and gospel music icon Randy Travis received a pair of historic honors on June 2, exactly 40 years after the release of his groundbreaking debut album Storms of Life. Tennessee Governor Bill Lee officially proclaimed June 2 as "Randy Travis Day," while the Hendersonville location of the former Morningstar Sound Studio, where Travis recorded many of his career-defining hits, was formally dedicated as "Point Amen."
The designation celebrates the extraordinary legacy of an artist whose influence helped reshape country music in the 1980s and whose faith-filled recordings later made him one of the most respected voices in gospel music. Morningstar Sound Studio played a pivotal role in Travis' rise to stardom, serving as the recording home for classics such as "Forever and Ever, Amen," "On the Other Hand," and numerous other chart-topping hits that helped usher traditional country music back into the mainstream.
Travis marked the occasion alongside longtime friends and collaborators, including songwriter Paul Overstreet, legendary producer Kyle Lehning, Morningstar Sound Studio co-founder Tony Gottlieb, Warner Music Nashville Chair and President Cris Lacy, Tony Conway, family members, and state and local leaders. Special recognition was also given to Hendersonville Mayor Jamie Clary, Tennessee Commissioner Mark Ezell, Andy Gilley, and Governor Lee for their support of the celebration.
While Storms of Life established Travis as a country music powerhouse, his impact extends far beyond the genre. Over the past two decades, he has released a number of acclaimed gospel projects, including Inspirational Journey, Rise and Shine, Worship & Faith, and Glory Train: Songs of Faith, Worship, and Praise. Those recordings earned multiple GMA Dove Awards and solidified his reputation as one of the rare artists to achieve lasting success in both country and Christian music.
The dual honors not only commemorate the anniversary of one of country music's most influential albums but also recognize a career marked by timeless songs, unwavering faith, and a legacy that continues to inspire audiences around the world.
