Country music fans got the surprise of the summer Thursday night when Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley walked back into the same stadium - and back into each other's lives - in front of thousands at CMA Fest 2026.
The duo reunited for the first time since announcing an indefinite hiatus in 2022, performing together on the opening night of CMA Fest at Nissan Stadium in Nashville.
The entrance alone was worth the four-year wait. Hubbard and Kelley were introduced by boxing announcer Michael Buffer - the "Let's get ready to rumble" guy - as if they were stepping into a championship bout. The two then walked from separate sides of the stadium, meeting on a platform in the middle while singing their 2013 hit "Round Here," high-fiving fans the entire way. Then came "Cruise" - and the crowd lost it.
Before the music fully took over, Hubbard stopped to speak. "We got three things we want to say tonight," he told the crowd. "First of all, God is good. Second of all, life is short." Then both men said it together: "We back, baby!"
The reunion had been building all week. The duo's official Instagram - dormant since 2023 - suddenly updated its profile photo to "FGL LFG." A Nashville billboard then appeared with a phone number fans could text. The message they received: "Turns out, some things are just better together. Much more to come."
There is more to come, it turns out. Billboard has confirmed that more FGL live shows are coming in 2027, and the duo has also signed with The Core Entertainment. No new music has been announced yet, but the apparatus is already in motion.
The road back started with a friendship, not a business deal. Earlier this year, Hubbard opened up about reaching out to Kelley: "I miss the guy I was partners with for 10 years. I miss my old roommate, my best man at my wedding." That kind of reconciliation - choosing to restore what was broken - is a story worth telling on its own.
CMA Fest 2026 continues through Sunday at Nissan Stadium in Nashville.
