Christian hip-hop pioneer Lecrae has added another major honor to his remarkable career, taking home his fourth BET Award after winning the Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Award for his moving single "Headphones," featuring T.I. and Killer Mike.

The award recognizes one of the most emotionally vulnerable songs from Lecrae's 2025 album Reconstruction, a project born from his deeply personal journey of rebuilding his faith after experiencing hurt within the church.

Celebrating the victory on Instagram, Lecrae reflected on the unexpected impact of the song.

"It's beautiful to see a record created for those processing grief finding the people who need it most. Grateful to witness it."

"Headphones" imagines loved ones in heaven listening to messages from those they left behind, with its poignant chorus declaring, "Headphones in Heaven, I wish I could tell them; I hope they can hear me, it's so much I'm feelin'." The song quickly resonated with listeners navigating loss and mourning, becoming one of the defining tracks on Reconstruction.

The album itself chronicles Lecrae's spiritual reconstruction after wrestling with disappointment and pain caused by Christian leaders. Reflecting on that season, he previously shared that God continually reminded him that the failures of people should never be confused with the faithfulness of God.

"I didn't do that to you. The truth is still truth. You were hurt by people, not me. So don't throw away my truth."

The BET Award adds another milestone to an already decorated career. Although "Headphones" was also nominated for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song at the Grammy Awards, the trophy ultimately went to Brandon Lake for "Hard Fought Hallelujah" featuring Jelly Roll.

Lecrae, who has already won four Grammy Awards and received eleven Grammy nominations, responded to his latest achievement with a reflective poem on Instagram that reminded fans where he believes true success is found.

Rather than celebrating awards alone, the rapper wrote that his greatest hope is one day hearing God say, "Well done," arguing that eternal faithfulness outweighs followers, streams, and public recognition. He contrasted celebrity with an unknown believer quietly changing lives behind prison walls, suggesting that heaven's definition of greatness looks very different from the world's.

The BET victory once again highlights Lecrae's unique ability to bridge mainstream culture and Christian faith, creating music that addresses pain, doubt, grief, and hope while continuing to reach audiences far beyond the traditional boundaries of Christian music.
