Sir Paul McCartney gave guests at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's wedding reception a piece of music history few expected to witness live again. The Beatles legend performed "I Want to Hold Your Hand" at the couple's Madison Square Garden reception on July 3 - the first time he has sung the 1963 hit live since a Beatles concert at New York's Paramount Theatre in September 1964, according to setlist.fm.
A source told People that after the ceremony, Swift's mother, Andrea, invited guests into the reception room where a stage had already been set up for performances. McCartney, 84, wasn't the only music icon to take the stage that night - Fleetwood Mac's Stevie Nicks also performed during the celebration, according to Good Morning America co-anchor Robin Roberts.
McCartney and Swift have a friendship dating back years, including a joint 2020 Rolling Stone cover where the two songwriters interviewed each other. Just weeks before the wedding, McCartney told the BBC he saw parallels between Swift's fame and Beatlemania, adding that he doesn't think she needs any advice from him.
Swift and Kelce, both 36, exchanged vows in a ceremony officiated by Adam Sandler, with the bride in a custom Christian Dior Haute Couture gown. Amid the spectacle of A-list guests and surprise performances, the night ultimately centered on a wedding - a reminder that even the world's biggest celebrities still gather loved ones to witness the same covenant of marriage that Scripture calls sacred.
McCartney has no upcoming tour dates but recently released his album The Boys of Dungeon Lane.
