Brandy Norwood may be closing in on her first new album since 2020. During an emotional homecoming in McComb, Mississippi, on July 6, the Grammy winner told a local interviewer she's ready to get back into the studio.

"I've been hearing about I should do a new album, so I think I wanna do a new album," Brandy said. "I gotta do something because I want to perform, so I better get to it."

The comment comes as Brandy's fans, affectionately known as the #STARZ, mark more than six years since her last studio release, 2020's chart-topping "B7." She gave no timeline for when new music might arrive, but the tease alone was enough to excite longtime supporters online.

The interview took place the same day McComb officials presented Brandy with the Key to the City, honoring her contributions to music and to the community that raised her. Reflecting on the moment, Brandy told the crowd, "Every summer McComb opened me with open arms," thanking the family who shaped her sense of belonging.

The hometown honor is the latest in a string of recognitions for Brandy in 2026, following a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the Icon Award during Grammy week earlier this year. Just two days before her McComb visit, she headlined the 2026 Essence Festival in New Orleans, delivering a live run through her biggest hits.

Whether the new album becomes a full rollout or stays a passing thought remains to be seen - but for an artist marking three decades in music, the door is clearly open.
