Jay-Z opened his three-night "Jay-Z 30" concert series at Yankee Stadium on Friday, July 10, with a surprise appearance from wife Beyoncé and 14-year-old daughter Blue Ivy Carter.
Jay-Z delivered a massive opening 30th anniversary show filled with special guests including wife Beyoncé and daughter Blue Ivy Carter, who impressed the crowd by playing piano. Jay-Z kicked off the show with the opening track of his debut album "Can't Knock the Hustle," featuring Mary J. Blige. Moments later, Beyoncé took the stage and helped him sing Blige's part, performing a special remix.
The surprises kept coming as Jay-Z brought out other special guests including rapper Nas, and his daughter Blue Ivy, who wowed fans with her piano skills.
The 14-year-old star played the piano during her father's 1996 hit "Feelin' It," which originally featured vocalist Angela "Mecca" Scott.
The concert marked the first of three shows commemorating major milestones in Jay-Z's catalog. The "Jay-Z 30" concert series commemorates the 30th anniversary of his debut album, "Reasonable Doubt," released June 25, 1996, and the 25th anniversary of his sixth studio album, "The Blueprint," released Sept. 11, 2001.
Saturday night's concert will celebrate "The Blueprint" at Yankee Stadium, followed by a third "Extra Innings" show on Sunday, July 12, combining both albums due to high demand.
Friday's performance offered a career-spanning set featuring Nas, Beyoncé, Blue Ivy, and more, with Jay-Z also bringing out early mentor Jaz-O and paying tribute to the late Notorious B.I.G. during the set. Jay-Z, who already holds the record for the most sold-out performances at Yankee Stadium, is looking to extend his achievement with a seventh sell-out.
