'Reacher' Star Alan Ritchson Lifts 100-Pound Weight to Deliver Powerful Message About Sin

Alan Ritchson is proving that not every powerful performance happens on screen.

The Reacher star has gone viral after sharing a heartfelt faith message in which he hoisted a 100-pound weight to illustrate the crushing burden of sin, guilt, and shame-and explained why he believes Jesus offers lasting freedom.

In a new installment of his "InstaChurch" series, the outspoken Christian actor filmed himself inside his home gym, admitting the devotional video was "overdue" before grabbing the massive weight to make his point.

"I probably should have started with a different weight," Ritchson joked as he struggled to hold it.

"This is the consequence of sin and death. This weight has us. It slows us down. This is biblical."

Quoting Hebrews 12:1, Ritchson compared the heavy weight to the spiritual burden people carry through guilt, shame, and brokenness.

"This thing...it's trying to slow us down. It's trying to make us motionless," he said. "The consequence looks like guilt and shame-all the things that signal we're not on the path we were designed to walk."

To make the illustration more personal, Ritchson recalled a friend preparing to serve a jail sentence who became overwhelmed by despair, sleeping for long periods as the weight of his circumstances closed in.

While acknowledging that most people may never face prison, he argued that everyone experiences an internal sentence when they make choices they know are harmful.

"There is a sentencing that takes place internally when we do things that we know are inherently not good for us or others or the world," he explained.

The actor then turned to the heart of the Gospel, describing Jesus as the perfect Son of God who willingly took humanity's punishment upon Himself.

"Jesus offers His life for ours," Ritchson said. "Somebody has to suffer the consequences of death and separation from God. But Jesus is saying, 'I've already done that, and I'm offering the price that I paid for you.'"

Rather than encouraging an emotional or complicated conversion experience, Ritchson said coming to Christ can begin with a simple, honest prayer.

"I like, Jesus, what I hear about you. I want to participate in your way, in your life," he said as an example. "I want the life and vitality and joy and hope that you offer. Please make it happen."

He encouraged viewers to trust God with the rest, believing that God begins working in people's lives after they surrender to Him.

"See how God starts to orchestrate and intervene for things to happen in your life that free you...that make you move again...that lighten your load," he concluded.

Ritchson, whose acting credits include Fast X, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Ordinary Angels, and Amazon Prime's hit series Reacher, has become increasingly vocal about his Christian faith through his "InstaChurch" videos. His openness has earned praise from many believers while also drawing criticism from some Christians over his role in Reacher, which contains mature content, and other public controversies.

Despite the criticism, Ritchson continues to use his growing platform to point viewers toward Jesus-this time with nothing more than a 100-pound weight and a simple invitation to experience freedom.
