A Mississippi mom who once put her music dreams on hold for her family just took a major step toward reclaiming them - and she did it with a song rooted in forgiveness and grace.

Elsie, a 32-year-old singer-songwriter from Columbia, Mississippi, earned three "yes" votes from the judges on Tuesday's episode of "America's Got Talent" with her original song "Forgiveless," a soul-blues number about washing away sin and choosing to forgive without forgetting. "I dig down deep to cleanse my soul / Came up clean, but I can't let go / It's one thing I won't forget / I forgive but I won't forget," she sang, drawing loud cheers from the studio audience.

The judges were divided on the song choice - Howie Mandel cast the night's lone "no" vote, saying he wanted to know more about who she was as an artist - but Sofía Vergara, Simon Cowell, and Mel B all voted yes, sending Elsie through to the next round. "I think it was just a wrong choice, a little bad luck today," Vergara said. "I'm gonna say yes because I want to give you another chance."

For Elsie, the moment traced back much further than the audition stage. "Just knowing how far I've come since playing the piano in my parents' church," she said afterward, reflecting on the journey. "And now, I'm on the world's biggest stage, and I just felt really blessed."

Dozens of friends, family, and community members gathered for a watch party at the University of Southern Mississippi to cheer her on. "I hope to show the world that if you're a mom and have a dream, you do not have to sacrifice your dream in order to care for your family," Elsie said. "The 'Sipp got something to say."
