Sports media superstar Pat McAfee has opened up about his spiritual journey in one of his most candid faith conversations yet-revealing that he believes he will eventually "land" on Jesus Christ after an unexpected encounter with a street evangelist.
The former NFL punter and outspoken ESPN personality was stopped outside the ESPY Awards by street preacher Jordan Kreisle, who asked him a simple question: "Did you know Jesus loves you?"
Instead of brushing him off, McAfee launched into a remarkably honest conversation about faith, admitting that although he grew up as what many jokingly call a "Chreaster"-attending church mainly on Christmas and Easter-his perspective has been changing.
"My dad went to Catholic school," McAfee explained before confessing that he has become increasingly curious about life's deeper questions.
"I've gotten more invested in the conversation of... there has to be a reason for everything," he said, adding that as his life has become increasingly blessed, he's felt drawn to explore God more seriously.
The ESPN host even revealed a dream project that caught many fans by surprise.
"I'd love to do a show talking about finding my God," McAfee said, explaining that he wants to explore different faith traditions as part of his own spiritual search.
But it was his next admission that quickly captured attention across Christian circles.
"I love the thought of Jesus Christ," McAfee said. "I love the thought of that being it, and I think, inevitably, I will land there because that's kind of how I feel right now."
For someone who has built a reputation on sports debates, bold opinions and larger-than-life entertainment, McAfee admitted that when it comes to faith, he doesn't pretend to have all the answers.
"I'm in the middle of my journey right now," he said, describing the meeting as a "divine moment."
Kreisle, founder of the Reel Evangelism ministry, shared that after spending 15 years as a pastor, he felt God calling him to leave the pulpit and take the Gospel directly to the streets.
He encouraged McAfee not to confuse religion with a relationship with Christ.
"God really wants and desires a relationship with you," Kreisle told him, assuring the television star that Jesus knows every detail of his life and still loves him unconditionally.
McAfee responded warmly throughout the exchange, repeatedly thanking the evangelist for approaching him.
"That's awesome," he said after hearing the Gospel presentation.
The encounter took an even more personal turn when Kreisle asked if he could pray-not only for McAfee, but specifically for his young daughter, saying he felt prompted by God to do so.
According to Kreisle, the prayer was intended to show McAfee just how deeply God was pursuing him.
"He's trying to grab you, Pat," the evangelist said. "He's saying, 'Land on Me now because I am the answer.'"
McAfee appeared visibly moved by the conversation and embraced the prayer, thanking Kreisle afterward with a smile.
"You're not a weirdo, man," McAfee joked. "You're a 40-year-old legend who's taking the Word to the street."
The exchange isn't the first sign that McAfee has become increasingly open about matters of faith. Last year, viewers were surprised when he unexpectedly asked Cleveland Browns quarterback Jameis Winston to pray during an episode of The Pat McAfee Show.
Now, with his latest comments about loving "the thought of Jesus Christ" and believing he may ultimately find his faith in Him, many fans are watching to see where the popular broadcaster's spiritual journey leads next.
