After more than three decades of balancing ministry and music, gospel duo Angelo & Veronica have made a surprising announcement that is already getting people talking. The longtime husband-and-wife team say they are officially abandoning performance contracts for churches and returning to a love offering model-trusting God, rather than guaranteed fees, to provide for their ministry.
The decision marks a dramatic shift for the veteran artists, who admit the issue of charging churches has weighed on them for years.
Sharing the news with supporters, the duo revealed that when their debut album was released in 1992, they were signed to the prestigious William Morris Agency. But they were shocked to discover that one pastor had received a 14-page booking contract just to schedule them for a ministry event.
"We were stunned and had no idea," they recalled.
That experience prompted Angelo & Veronica to abandon formal contracts and minister solely on a love offering basis. While many churches responded generously, they say others took advantage of the arrangement. Ironically, some of the smallest congregations proved to be the most generous, while larger ministries often gave far less.
Because their livelihood depended on touring, the couple eventually introduced a much shorter one- to two-page agreement, with some churches even requesting contracts to help plan their ministry budgets. Even so, they admit they never felt completely comfortable with the arrangement.
Now, after 34 years in ministry, they believe God is leading them back to where they started.
The new policy applies exclusively to churches and ministry events. Angelo & Veronica stressed that it does not apply to ticketed concerts or commercial venues, and they also made clear that they will continue to prayerfully choose which invitations to accept.
Their motivation, they say, is simple: freedom to preach the gospel without financial pressure.
"We trust God will provide," they wrote. "If we are taken advantage of again, we simply won't go back. God will make up the difference. God takes care of His singers! Our freedom to preach Christ Jesus is more important than money."
To underscore the conviction behind their decision, the couple pointed to 1 Corinthians 9:18, where the Apostle Paul speaks of preaching the gospel "without charge."
In an era when ministry finances and artist honorariums continue to spark debate across Christian circles, Angelo & Veronica's announcement is likely to reignite conversations about how churches should support travelling ministers and musicians. Whether their decision inspires others remains to be seen, but for the veteran duo, the move represents a return to faith over financial certainty.
