Jenna Fischer, who played the American version of Lucy Davis's iconic "Office" character, has publicly responded to Davis's announcement that she is living with incurable Stage 4 breast cancer.
Fischer, who played receptionist Pam Beesly opposite Davis's Dawn Tinsley in the U.K. original, commented directly on Davis's Instagram post: "Beautiful post. Love you lots. And yes to working with cancer! Let's spread that message far and wide! How working is such a comfort!" Fischer herself was diagnosed with Stage 1 breast cancer in 2023 and was declared cancer-free the following year after surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation.
Davis, 53, revealed Tuesday that her cancer, first found 18 months ago, has since metastasized to her spine, right hip, and ribs. She said the disease is inoperable and "too late for chemo," but that she remains at peace and intends to keep working and advocating for animal rights.
The response from Davis's "Office" circle has been immediate. Original co-star Ricky Gervais left a heart emoji on her post, "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" co-star Kiernan Shipka wrote, "I love you so much Lucy," and "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" star Melissa Joan Hart wrote, "Your outlook is inspiring and I'm sending you love, prayers and big hugs!" Actress Amanda Abbington, "Shaun of the Dead" director Edgar Wright, and "Downton Abbey" star Hugh Bonneville also left messages of support.
Davis has said she hopes her openness encourages others to get any unusual symptoms checked early, rather than dismissing them as she nearly did.
