According to TMZ, the children had previously witnessed emotional outbursts and had been given age-appropriate explanations about what their father was going through. Now, with Hilton still reportedly hospitalized, his mother, Teresita Lavandeira, has stepped forward to provide stability for the family.
Hilton has reportedly signed a consent form allowing his mother to make medical and dental decisions for the children, access important records and enroll them in school. Lavandeira has also petitioned for temporary custody and asked the court to seal the proceedings, arguing that the children should be protected from further unwanted attention.

Hilton was hospitalized following an August 4 incident during a TikTok livestream. Emergency responders were called to his Florida home, and his TikTok account was subsequently reportedly banned over violations involving self-harm content.
The Blast reports that Hilton remains hospitalized under Florida's Baker Act and is expected to require surgery for injuries sustained during the crisis. His mother, who has already been closely involved in the children's lives, is reportedly expected to continue caring for them while he recovers.
