Elvis Presley may have been the King of Rock 'n' Roll, but according to one member of the famous Osmond family, his heart was very much interested in the King of Kings.
Nathan Osmond, a country and inspirational singer and the son of Osmonds founding member Alan Osmond, has shared an extraordinary family story about Elvis' faith after getting the rare opportunity to hold Presley's personal Bible in his hands.
Nathan, who is also the grandson of Osmond family matriarch Olive Osmond, posted about the experience on Instagram after seeing the Bible owned by his friend at Moon's Rare Books.
But it was what Nathan revealed about Elvis and his famous family that really caught our attention.
According to Nathan, Elvis called his father, Alan, at his hotel during the 1970s and the two talked for quite some time. During the conversation, Elvis discovered that Olive was sitting there with her son - and apparently immediately wanted to speak with her.
Nathan says Olive reminded Elvis of his beloved mother, Gladys Presley, who died in 1958.
And what followed wasn't your typical celebrity chitchat.
"Both of them were theologians and had the most incredible gospel discussion you have ever heard!" Nathan recalled.
According to Nathan, Elvis was so fascinated by Olive's knowledge of the gospel that he wanted the conversation to continue.
In fact, Nathan claims Elvis invited the Osmond family to his home in California for a barbecue, where he hoped to spend more time talking with Olive about their faith.
Tragically, that meeting never happened.
Nathan said Elvis died just weeks before the planned barbecue. Presley died on August 16, 1977, at just 42 years old.
"Elvis loved the gospel and loved singing about his savior, Jesus Christ," Nathan wrote.
Then came Nathan's striking conclusion about where he believes Elvis is today.
"I have no doubt that the king of rock 'n' roll is still worshiping the king of Kings, Jesus Christ."
Elvis' love of gospel music has long been part of his story. Despite becoming synonymous with rock 'n' roll, Presley repeatedly returned to the Christian music he had grown up hearing and recorded acclaimed gospel projects including His Hand in Mine, How Great Thou Art and He Touched Me.
That makes Nathan's story all the more fascinating.
Forget the jumpsuits, screaming fans and Graceland mythology for a moment. According to the Osmond family account, Elvis Presley wanted to sit down over a barbecue and talk about the gospel with Grandma Osmond.
Nearly 50 years after Elvis' death, that's one dinner invitation Nathan Osmond clearly hasn't forgotten.
