Bruno Mars kicked off a sold-out, four-night run at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, with an unexpected moment of faith.

The nearly two-hour set opened with a video clip of Mars kneeling inside a Mexican-style church, praying for the safety of everyone in attendance and for a show fans would never forget, according to Rolling Stone's review of the Friday night performance.

From there, Mars took the stage in a bright red charro suit for "Risk It All," setting the tone for a night he described to the crowd as a celebration of love. The setlist moved through fan favorites including "24K Magic" and "Treasure," backed by the choreography of his longtime band, The Hooligans. Rolling Stone called Mars "this generation's greatest showman" following the performance.

The MetLife dates mark a milestone stop on The Romantic Tour, Mars' first full headlining run in nearly a decade, in support of his fourth studio album, "The Romantic."

British singer Raye made her debut as the tour's opening act for the New Jersey shows, joining fellow support acts Anderson .Paak (performing as DJ Pee .Wee), Victoria Monét, and Leon Thomas across the tour's run.
