Montell and Kristin Jordan's New Children's Book Turns "Monster Under the Bed" Fears Into a Faith Lesson

Grammy Award-winning artist Montell Jordan and his wife, Kristin Jordan, are releasing a new children's book that flips a classic bedtime fear on its head - what if the monster under the bed is actually scared of you?

Shilo and the Not-So-Scary Girl Above His Bed follows Shilo, a young monster convinced something frightening lurks above his bed: a little girl. As he wrestles with his fear, Shilo learns to pause, pray, hold onto what's true, and take a brave step forward anyway.

The story grew out of a real conversation Kristin had with the couple's own son years ago, when she asked him what if the monster he feared was actually afraid of him. "That simple question changed the way he saw his fear," Kristin said, adding that she hopes the book gives parents "a simple, faith-filled way to help their children find courage when the world feels scary."

Montell said the goal is for Shilo to become more than a beloved character. "Being brave doesn't mean you never feel afraid; it means fear doesn't get to decide what you do next," he said.

Aimed at children ages 3-7, the book is designed to spark conversations about fear, faith, and courage at home, in classrooms, and in Sunday schools.

Montell Jordan, best known for his 1995 hit "This Is How We Do It," has released seven studio albums over a nearly two-decade career and sold more than 10 million records worldwide. Kristin Jordan is a speaker, author, and co-founder of Marriage Masterpeace Retreat Center.

Shilo and the Not-So-Scary Girl Above His Bed is available for preorder now and releases nationwide September 1, 2026, wherever books are sold.
