Jesikah Suggs, a writer, story editor, and co-producer on Netflix's My Life With the Walter Boys, has died at her home in Studio City, California. She was 32.
Suggs' family confirmed to Deadline that she passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 18, following an eight-year battle with breast cancer. She was first diagnosed at age 24.
Her sister, writer and producer Liz Suggs, shared a tribute honoring her strength through the illness. "Through it all, she showed up to work every day, eager to defy being defined by cancer," Liz said, noting that Jesikah's cancer metastasized two years after her initial diagnosis. "Jes, once again, courageously endured and triumphed through every treatment imaginable, and she did it with a smile on her face and love for all the healthcare workers who poured their care into her," Liz continued. "Her life will continue to bear fruit in the stories told by every writer she touched - so in a sense, she'll still be writing for a very, very, very long time."
Born March 2, 1994, in Dallas, Texas, Suggs earned a film degree from Baylor University before moving to Los Angeles, where she got her start as an intern on Big Brother. She later worked alongside her sister as an assistant to writer-producer Jason Katims, eventually writing episodes across multiple seasons of My Life With the Walter Boys, the Netflix hit starring Nikki Rodriguez, Noah LaLonde, and Ashby Gentry.
Suggs is survived by her husband, Dustin Ingram, her mother, Roxanne, sisters Liz and Kathryn, and brother Jimmy. A memorial service was held in Los Angeles on Saturday, Aug. 22, with another planned in Grapevine, Texas, this coming weekend.
