Contemporary Christian artist Jamie MacDonald has released her new single "Roots," part of a growing collection of music inspired by the hit series The Chosen. The song dropped Aug. 28 via Capitol CMG.

MacDonald shared the lyric video on social media, revealing that the visuals follow Mary's storyline with Jesus throughout the series. "I love this footage that follows Mary's storyline with Jesus that we used for our lyric video," she wrote, encouraging fans to stream the track. The video opens on a close-up of Jesus, paired with the song's central lyric, "my roots are not in this world" - a line that reframes Mary's journey of faith as one rooted in eternity rather than earthly circumstance.

"Roots" continues MacDonald's rapid rise in Christian music. Her 2026 self-titled debut album, produced with contributions from Colby Wedgeworth and featuring Lauren Daigle, spawned three Billboard Hot Christian Songs entries: "Desperate," "Left It in the River," and "Ain't No Way." MacDonald has also lent her voice to previous soundtrack projects, including music inspired by Prime Video's House of David.

With "Roots," MacDonald joins the growing catalog of artists creating music tied directly to The Chosen, a series that has become one of the most influential vehicles for faith-based storytelling in recent years - turning biblical narratives into songs that reach audiences far beyond the screen.
