Music legend Lionel Richie is reportedly receiving treatment in an intensive care unit in St. Louis, sparking fresh concern for the 77-year-old singer just months after a frightening onstage health episode.
A post shared by TMZ's verified Instagram account claims Richie was hospitalized after performing in St. Louis over the weekend. However, the outlet has not yet published a corresponding report on its website, and no details have been released concerning what prompted the alleged admission.
Richie's representatives and family have also not publicly confirmed the ICU report. His diagnosis, present condition and expected length of hospitalization remain unknown.
Until additional information becomes available, the claim should be treated as a developing report rather than a confirmed medical update.
The news is particularly worrying because Richie suffered another health scare in June. During the opening night of his joint tour with Earth, Wind & Fire at Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, Minnesota, the "All Night Long" singer told the audience that he felt dizzy and "strange."
Richie sat down while performing the normally energetic "Dancing on the Ceiling" before joking with fans that when someone feels dizzy, the best response is to "sit your ass down."
He attempted to continue the concert, moving to the piano to sing "Three Times a Lady," but eventually left the stage and did not return. His saxophonist, Dino Soldo, later informed the audience that Richie was unwell and could not finish the performance.
Paramedics met Richie backstage and transported him by ambulance to a local hospital. Sources described the hospitalization as precautionary, while Earth, Wind & Fire drummer John Paris later suggested Richie had been "a little dehydrated."
Doctors subsequently advised the singer to rest, prompting the postponement of concerts in Chicago and Columbus. Richie was said to be "heartbroken" about disappointing fans and eager to resume performing.
The latest reported hospitalization therefore raises questions about whether the veteran entertainer has experienced another isolated health episode or is dealing with a more serious medical problem.
