Kathy Troccoli has shared a deeply personal tribute to Dolly Parton-and buried inside it is a delightful story about the moment the country legend recognized her before she had even been properly introduced.
Troccoli recalled meeting Parton at a small celebrity cocktail party during the 1990s, when the Christian recording artist was enjoying crossover success with a pop single. A record company executive spotted Parton and took Troccoli over to introduce them.
"Hey Dolly, I want you to meet someone. This is Kathy Troccoli," he began-but Parton did not let him finish.
"The gospel singer!?" Parton exclaimed.
For Troccoli, hearing one of the most famous women in entertainment recognize her-and specifically identify her with gospel music-was unforgettable.
"My heart just about exploded," Troccoli confessed, recalling the warm hug and conversation that followed.

"There was a woman who understood that the greatest thing you can do with a blessed life is use it to bless somebody else," Troccoli wrote.
