Jonathan Meléndez, the 38-year-old keyboardist for the Mexican rock band Camilo Séptimo, was found dead alongside three members of his family in his apartment in Atizapán de Zaragoza, near Mexico City, the State of Mexico Prosecutor's Office confirmed this week.
Authorities said Meléndez, his wife Ana Paula, 35, who was four months pregnant, their 3-year-old daughter, and the family's 21-year-old nanny, Aleida Romero Victorio, were discovered dead in the apartment Tuesday. A 6-year-old boy was also found inside the home and was unharmed, officials said. Investigators believe the deaths occurred between 5:30 and 7:40 p.m. that evening.
Mexico's Secretary of Public Security, Omar García Harfuch, announced that two men have been arrested in connection with the case. One suspect is alleged to have been a business associate of Meléndez and reportedly used that relationship to gain access to the home, García Harfuch said. Authorities have not yet released a motive, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The nanny's family told reporters she was "a very hardworking and responsible girl who did not deserve for this to be done to her," her aunt said.
Camilo Séptimo paid tribute to Meléndez on Instagram, writing that the band would "honor and celebrate his life, his music, his light, and what he shared with those of us fortunate enough to know him."
As news of the tragedy spreads, fans and members of the music community have turned to prayer for the surviving child and extended family, a reminder that even amid senseless loss, many are still looking for comfort beyond the headlines.
