Every Time I Die Guitarist Andy Williams Dies At 48 After Final Wrestling Match Ends In Tragedy

Andy Williams, the towering guitarist who traded metalcore stages for the wrestling ring as "The Butcher," has died at just 48 following a horrifying medical emergency during a match in Pennsylvania.

Williams was competing alongside his longtime tag-team partner Jesse Guilmette, better known as "The Blade," at Enjoy Wrestling's fifth-anniversary show at Mr. Smalls Theatre in Millvale on Saturday night, September 5. The pair were challenging TME for the promotion's tag-team championship when Williams collapsed near the end of the match.

Doctors stationed at the venue rushed into the ring and administered CPR while an ambulance was called. The rest of the show was immediately canceled, with stunned spectators sent home as Williams was transported to a nearby hospital.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed that Williams was pronounced dead at the hospital at 9:43 p.m., approximately an hour after the emergency began. Although dispatch audio reportedly indicated that he may have struck his head against a ring post, officials have not disclosed a cause of death. It would therefore be premature to suggest that the reported impact caused his death. 

The tragedy is especially heartbreaking because Williams was sharing the ring with The Blade, the man he once described as the brother life had given him. Their intimidating partnership became a favorite among AEW audiences after The Butcher, The Blade and The Bunny made their surprise debut on AEW Dynamite in 2019.

AEW remembered Williams as both a musical trailblazer and a wrestler who had earned enormous respect behind the scenes.

"All Elite Wrestling is saddened to learn of the passing of Andy Williams, aka The Butcher," the company stated, extending its condolences to his family, friends and fans. Fellow performers have since flooded social media with tributes recalling the intimidating-looking star as an exceptionally kind and generous man. 

Long before wrestling fans knew him as The Butcher, Williams was helping shape the sound of modern metalcore. He co-founded the influential Buffalo band Every Time I Die in 1998 and played rhythm guitar throughout its celebrated career. Williams appeared on all nine of the group's studio albums, including Hot Damn!, New Junk Aesthetic, From Parts Unknown and its acclaimed final release, Radical.

When Every Time I Die broke apart in 2022, Williams did not abandon music. He subsequently formed Atomic Rule, whose appropriately ferocious debut EP, With Skull Crushing Force, arrived in 2025. His ability to move convincingly between packed concert venues and televised wrestling arenas made him an unusual-and deeply loved-figure in two notoriously demanding worlds.

Williams' agent offered perhaps the most revealing tribute, looking beyond the guitars, muscles and fearsome persona: "He was a wonderful man, and I will miss him every day."

For fans now mourning both Andy Williams and The Butcher, that contrast forms the heart of his legacy. He looked terrifying under the lights, played music with crushing force and fought like a monster inside the ring-but those who knew him repeatedly remembered the gentle, funny and loyal person underneath it all.
