Dolly Parton's Sister Stella Pleads for an End to "AI Garbage" Flooding the Internet Since Icon's Death

Stella Parton is asking the internet for something simple: stop.

Ten days after her sister Dolly Parton died on August 25 at age 80 following a brief battle with cancer, Stella addressed the flood of AI-generated content and misinformation circulating online in a two-part statement posted to Instagram on September 4.

"There is a tremendous amount of AI and endless garbage being posted everyday and it's been challenging to absorb and or ignore," Stella wrote. She thanked those who had offered "genuine" support during her family's grief, but said their public life had left them exposed to "incredible pressure and insensitivity from strangers."

Stella didn't name specific posts, but false and manipulated content involving Dolly has circulated widely since her death - including AI-generated images. She warned that those responsible for spreading it "will move on to the next stampede of endless misinformation," while her family continues carrying the real weight of the loss.

Rather than dwelling on anger, Stella turned her statement toward her sister's example. She described Dolly as someone who avoided public feuds and negativity because she understood, better than most, what she called a "negative vortex" of wasted energy. "Use my sister's life as an example for tolerance and respect toward others," Stella wrote. "It's not about the most clever comments, fake AI garbage, or snarky tweets. At the end of the day or the end of a life, how will you feel about yourself?"

It's a fitting final word from the Parton family - a call to choose kindness in grief, echoing the same grace Dolly spent a lifetime showing others.
