Andrea Bocelli and Jennifer Hudson are joining forces for a powerhouse duet-and the unexpected pairing may already have its eyes on Oscar glory.
The two celebrated vocalists have recorded "One Right Here," an original song for the forthcoming biographical drama Maserati: The Brothers. Written by legendary songwriter and 17-time Academy Award nominee Diane Warren, the emotional ballad will accompany the closing moments of the star-studded film.
Warren revealed that she originally wrote the song with Bocelli in mind and had long dreamed of hearing the Italian tenor perform one of her compositions. But the collaboration grew considerably bigger when she imagined Hudson's gospel-infused voice alongside his unmistakable classical sound.
"They come from two different musical worlds, but together they created this world of beauty," Warren said, describing the result as one of the finest songs and melodies she has ever written.
That is a bold statement from the woman behind such hits as "Because You Loved Me," "How Do I Live," "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" and "There You'll Be." Warren's team reportedly intends to submit "One Right Here" for consideration in the Academy Awards' Best Original Song category, meaning Bocelli and Hudson's surprise duet could soon shift from the recording studio to Hollywood's biggest stage.
The song reflects the film's central themes of family, loyalty and standing beside someone through success, struggle and loss. Its message also carries a deeply encouraging reminder that life's most difficult roads were never meant to be travelled alone.
Directed by Oscar winner Bobby Moresco, Maserati: The Brothers follows the Italian siblings whose shared dream grew from a small Bologna garage into one of the world's most famous luxury automobile brands. The impressive cast includes Anthony Hopkins, Al Pacino, Andy Garcia, Jessica Alba, Michele Morrone and Salvatore Esposito.
Producer Andrea Iervolino called the Bocelli-Hudson collaboration "a dream come true," promising that their voices will bring tremendous emotional intensity to the film's conclusion. With Bocelli's soaring elegance, Hudson's church-rooted power and Warren's gift for producing enormous cinematic ballads, this may be far more than another soundtrack release.
"One Right Here" will be released through Decca Records on Friday, October 2. Maserati: The Brothers is scheduled to receive its Italian theatrical premiere on October 15.
