Ella Langley's "Choosin' Texas" is officially the longest-running No. 1 song in Billboard Hot 100 history, securing its 23rd week atop the chart on Tuesday, Sept. 22 - surpassing Mariah Carey's holiday perennial "All I Want for Christmas Is You," which had held the record at 22 weeks.
The Alabama-born singer's breakout hit first topped the Hot 100 during the week of Feb. 14, then spent the following months trading the top spot with songs from Bad Bunny, Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo and others. By July, the chart belonged to Langley alone - "Choosin' Texas" ran 13 consecutive weeks at No. 1 on its way to the all-time record, already certified six-times platinum by the RIAA.
The milestone caps a breakout year Langley has repeatedly credited to her faith rather than her own success. She's paused concerts - including a stop opening for Morgan Wallen at Chicago's Soldier Field - to tell fans her rise has been inseparable from a renewed relationship with Christ, and she closed out a seven-trophy sweep at the ACM Awards this year with the words "thank you, God."
Co-written by Langley with Miranda Lambert, Luke Dick and Joybeth Taylor, "Choosin' Texas" is the lead single from her sophomore album, "Dandelion." The song also holds the record for most weeks atop Hot Country Songs, and Langley currently has two more songs - "Be Her" and her Morgan Wallen duet "I Can't Love You Anymore" - sitting in the Hot 100's top 10 alongside it.
For a country artist who started 2023 with under a million monthly Spotify listeners and now has more than 32 million, the record isn't just a chart footnote - it's the latest chapter in a year Langley has said, again and again, isn't really about her.
