A close friend of Nancy Guthrie is asking the public to give the missing woman's daughter and son-in-law some peace, nearly eight months into the search for the 84-year-old.
Lauren Serpa, a longtime friend of the Guthrie family, shared an update on Facebook saying that Annie Guthrie and her husband, Tommaso Cioni, are "back in town" and that their son has returned to school. "This has been a long six months for them," Serpa wrote. "I am requesting everybody to please leave them alone. They deserve to lead a normal life without always being stalked and observed by people."
Nancy Guthrie, the mother of TODAY co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, was reported missing from her home in the Catalina Foothills near Tucson, Arizona, on February 1. Investigators believe she was taken from her home against her will sometime after her daughter and son-in-law dropped her off from dinner the night before.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has repeatedly said Annie and Tommaso are not suspects, though online speculation about the family has continued for months. Serpa's post is a reminder that behind the case's constant churn of theories, a family is still just trying to hold things together while their mother, wife, and grandmother remains missing.
No new leads on Nancy's whereabouts have been officially announced. Authorities continue to ask anyone with information to come forward.
