Jana Kramer's divorce played out publicly, but her latest interview reveals the spiritual struggle behind the headlines. Speaking to The Christian Post on October 8, the singer and actress explained how loneliness after her marriage ended pushed her to embrace the faith she had long professed. That experience now connects personally with her role in the upcoming Christmas drama The One.

The One Tree Hill alum announced her separation from former NFL player Mike Caussin in April 2021, and their divorce was finalized that July. Their relationship had already weathered publicly discussed infidelity and attempts at reconciliation. When the marriage finally ended, the question became how Kramer would rebuild her life after a relationship whose difficulties had unfolded before an audience.

Her baptism followed on January 23, 2022, at Crosspoint Church in Franklin, Tennessee. Kramer shared emotional photographs and footage with her followers, making a public declaration of faith months after the divorce. "This is my battle cry," she wrote, describing the occasion as a turning point in how she understood being alone.

Her explanation went deeper than celebrating a fresh start. Kramer admitted that trusting God had been difficult because her past made the idea of a dependable father figure hard to accept. She feared being hurt or abandoned and said she had pushed God away for years. In the quiet after her marriage collapsed, she began to believe that God had remained present even when she struggled to trust Him.

Kramer later married former professional soccer player Allan Russell in July 2024. The couple had welcomed their son, Roman, in November 2023; she also shares daughter Jolie and son Jace with Caussin. Those developments provide context for her reflections on building a family after divorce.

In The One, opening November 5, Kramer plays a mother grieving the death of one of her twin daughters. The surviving daughter struggles with anger and questions about God. Martin Sheen also stars, while Chris Tomlin's daughter Ashlyn makes her feature-film debut. The film brings together themes of grief, foster care, faith, and redemption.

Kramer does not present baptism as the end of her questions. She acknowledges wanting greater discipline in reading the Bible and says church and worship music remain anchors. Her family regularly listens to "Holy Forever." She also admits questioning why God had not restored her former marriage-an unresolved struggle that helps explain her connection to a film about believing amid loss.
