Comedian Matt Rife says losing his grandfather pushed him to explore faith, and he has since been baptized.

Rife, best known for his raunchy stand-up, shared his story on the History Hyenas podcast with hosts Yannis Papas and Chris Distefano. According to Movieguide, he was baptized in a pool in August.

Rife said he attended church only occasionally as a kid, when friends invited him. His grandfather died two years before the interview. That loss made him realize he would never see him again, and he concluded that something has to exist beyond this life. He said he leans Christian and began going to church more often.

He was candid that the journey isn't easy. Rife admitted he finds church boring, but he said, "I want to believe in God." Distefano suggested he read The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel, according to Charisma.

The story resurfaced as new coverage on grief and faith circulated and as Rife's tour continued, including his stop in Nampa, Idaho.

Rife's comments show how a personal loss can lead someone to ask deeper questions, even for a comedian best known for edgy material.
