Spoiler warning: this article discusses new scenes in Avengers: Endgame Encore.
Loki is back in the Marvel spotlight, and fans are asking what his surprise cameo means for Avengers: Doomsday.
Disney's Avengers: Endgame Encore re-release arrived Sept. 25 with reportedly about four minutes of new footage, according to CBR. In one added scene, Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter's slow dance is interrupted when Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston, steps through the door. Reports say he offers to help them both, and then the scene ends.
The film's directors say the moment matters. At a New York screening, as reported by GamesRadar, one of the Russo brothers said "that's where Doomsday is born."
Another new scene reportedly returns to the TVA headquarters, where the multiverse appears to be in trouble.
Loki's role is the big mystery. After the Loki Season 2 finale, he was left holding the multiverse together as the God of Stories. Hiddleston has finished filming Doomsday and earlier said Loki's story is "not over yet," according to Variety.
Avengers: Doomsday opens Dec. 18 with Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. Encore opened with $86 million worldwide, according to Syfy.
Families planning to see Doomsday may want to check the rating and talk through the film's magic and mythology themes with younger viewers.
