Chad Lowe and Kim Painter joined their daughters for a family wedding less than two weeks after the death of their 13-year-old daughter, Fiona. The actor and his family attended nephew Matthew Lowe's marriage to Emily Markus in Santa Barbara, California, on Saturday, October 10, in what Page Six described as their first public outing since their loss.
Photographs obtained by the outlet showed the Life Goes On actor seated with Painter and daughters Mabel, 17, and Nixie, 10. Their attendance brought them together with relatives and longtime family friends for a significant occasion during a period of profound grief.
Matthew, the son of Rob Lowe and Sheryl Berkoff, exchanged vows with Markus at a ceremony officiated by Gwyneth Paltrow. Guests included Cameron Diaz, Katy Perry, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Adam Levine, and Maria Shriver, while Matthew's younger brother, John Owen Lowe, was also present.
The gathering followed the Lowe family's announcement that Fiona had died on September 29. In their statement, her parents remembered a beloved daughter who brought light to their lives and asked for prayers and privacy as they mourned. The wedding photographs document their attendance at a family milestone; they offer no measure of the grief they continue to carry.
Chad had previously returned to Instagram Stories on October 8, sharing a clip of author Gerry Hussey discussing grief and spirituality on the On Healing podcast. PEOPLE reported that it was his first public social media post following Fiona's death.
Support has also come from within the wider Lowe family. A source told PEOPLE that Rob and Chad are close and that family and friends have rallied around Chad and Kim. Their presence at Matthew's wedding placed them among those loved ones as the family marked a new marriage while mourning Fiona.
