Joe Manganiello’s Sofía Vergara Confession Reopens A Painful Marriage Mystery

Joe Manganiello is revisiting his divorce from Sofía Vergara-and his latest answer leaves a lingering question about whether their marriage could have ended differently. During an October 14 appearance on SiriusXM's Radio Andy, the actor was asked whether the relationship might have survived had he been in better health.

"Possibly, maybe," he replied, according to Page Six. The brief response puts his private health struggle at the center of renewed attention surrounding the couple's 2023 split.

His comments arrive alongside Bloodlines, the memoir in which Manganiello recounts a seven-year battle with a mysterious illness he says nearly killed him. In an interview with PEOPLE, the actor described repeated hospital visits, emergency intestinal surgery and a prolonged search for answers without a conclusive diagnosis. He said his health began deteriorating shortly after the couple married in 2015.

That timing gives his latest answer particular emotional weight. Asked to imagine their marriage without the illness, Manganiello left open the possibility that the outcome could have been different. His response expresses uncertainty, however, rather than a definitive explanation for why the relationship ended.

The memoir has also brought uncomfortable allegations about their private life into public view. Manganiello claims that, as his illness continued, their marriage became emotionally distant and that Vergara refused requests for physical comfort. Those allegations represent his account of their relationship; the cited reporting does not establish them independently.

The new interview adds another chapter to an already intensely personal discussion. A marriage once seen largely through red-carpet appearances is now being revisited through Manganiello's recollections of illness, vulnerability and the support he says he needed.

His answer does not resolve what happened between them. It does reveal the possibility he still acknowledges: under different circumstances, their story might have continued.
