Lil Wayne landed on Kid Rock's Halfway 2 Jesus after a last-minute scramble that left "7 Sins" without a rap feature just days before release.
Kid Rock announced on Oct. 1 that Eminem would appear on "7 Sins." Eminem then called Rock and suggested swapping in "Heal My Faith," a track he had also recorded. Rock agreed, and it became track No. 5.
That left "7 Sins" open. Rock reached out to Lil Wayne and Chuck D with no response, and he was ready to release the song without a rap break. In the early hours of Monday, Oct. 12, Lil Wayne messaged him to call. Wayne recorded a rap interlude that same day.
The Detroit Free Press was in Rock's Nashville studio as it came together. By Wednesday, with about a day and a half before release, Rock texted the paper that the album was 100% finished: "PRAISE JESUS!!!"
Eminem's part began as a quick writing assist on "Heal My Faith," but he sent back full verses about their shared Detroit history.
Halfway 2 Jesus was released Oct. 17. Kid Rock told Billboard the album is about forgiveness and second chances.
