Georgina Cates, the British actress known for An Awfully Big Adventure and Clay Pigeons, has died at 51. Her death occurred May 6, but it was not widely reported until Oct. 17-18, and no cause of death has been publicly reported.
Her daughter, Naiia, shared a tribute on Instagram in June, describing her mother as a "beautiful, free-spirited mom." Reports say the family has not released further details.
Cates was married to actor Skeet Ulrich, known for Scream and Riverdale, from 1997 to 2005. They had twins, Naiia and Jakob, born in 2001. Both children survive her.
Born Clare Woodgate in Colchester, England, Cates first auditioned for An Awfully Big Adventure under her birth name and was turned down. She returned as "Georgina Cates," with red hair and a Liverpool accent, and won the lead role of Stella in the 1995 film. It starred Hugh Grant and Alan Rickman.
She also starred in the BBC sitcom 2point4 Children and appeared in Clay Pigeons (1998) alongside Joaquin Phoenix and Vince Vaughn. Her later credits included Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa and Everlasting (2016), her final screen role. In recent years she worked as a photographer.
Her children have been mourning since spring, while the public is only now catching up. Psalm 34:18 reminds believers that the Lord is close to the brokenhearted.
