EJAE has married longtime partner Sam Kim, but the story behind their wedding involves a change of country, an earlier date, and a location with deeply personal significance. The KPop Demon Hunters singer exchanged vows with Kim on October 17 at Stage 28 in Seoul, with newly published wedding coverage revealing the family memories behind the celebration.
The couple had initially planned a November wedding in California before moving the ceremony to South Korea and bringing it forward by a month. According to Korean news agency Newsis, the revised plans followed a demanding period of promotion and awards appearances connected to the film's success, alongside the couple's desire to incorporate their Korean roots. The change left them approximately four months to organize the celebration.
Their choice of venue brought EJAE back to a place she knew long before international recognition. Stage 28 occupies the former residential property of her maternal grandfather, veteran actor Shin Young-kyun, where she spent time with her grandparents as a child. Her brother had also married there, giving the property another connection to the family's history.
"My grandparents lived in the house at the venue when I was a little girl," EJAE told Vogue. The garden ceremony drew on those childhood surroundings, while the glasshouse reception reflected the dreamlike quality of her life today. Their relationship also began through music: a mutual friend arranged a songwriting session at Kim's home studio in May 2017, where a professional introduction developed into a personal connection.
The wedding celebrations combined Korean tradition with contemporary bridal fashion. A Paebaek ceremony and welcome party took place at Korean fusion restaurant Congdu50, while EJAE wore a custom Danielle Frankel tulle gown with a strapless neckline and bubble hem for the wedding, accompanied by family heirloom jewelry.
For fans discovering the marriage through the new photographs, the changed plans provide the intriguing detail: an American wedding became a Seoul celebration rooted in family history. Behind the designer dress and international attention was a decision to begin married life in a place already filled with memories.
