Anne Wilson's story is moving from the concert stage to the movie set-and experienced musicians now have an opportunity to become part of it. A new casting call for My Jesus, the upcoming film inspired by the Christian and country singer's life, seeks performers to portray band members during an October 27 shoot in Nashville.
The opportunity comes with specific requirements. According to a listing attributed to Jenny Alison Casting, the production is seeking Nashville-area musicians of all genders, ages 30-50, with experience playing guitar, bass guitar, drums, or keyboard. Selected applicants must bring their instruments, convincingly simulate playing on camera, and be available for a filming day that could last 12 hours or longer. Compensation is listed at $175 for eight hours, with overtime afterward and an additional payment for bringing an instrument.
Behind that practical announcement lies a larger creative question: how will filmmakers translate a personal Christian testimony into a story that works on screen? Kingdom Story Company's official synopsis suggests that My Jesus will explore the disruption surrounding Anne's discovery as a singer, including the effects on her family, friendships, expectations, and relationship with God. That premise gives the film room to examine what happens when a young person's private sense of purpose becomes a public career.
Wilson will be portrayed by singer-songwriter and actress Aliza Kate Barlow. Gavin Casalegno will play Jacob, while Monica Potter and Charles Esten portray their parents, Lynn and Kent; Beau Bridges plays their grandfather, Bob. Kay Oyegun is directing and wrote the screenplay, which is based on Wilson's book, My Jesus: From Heartache to Hope.
Those choices put family relationships at the center of the announced production. They also establish a demanding task for Barlow: portraying an artist whose audience already knows her voice and testimony. The performance will need to make Anne convincing as a teenager finding her way, even for viewers who arrive knowing where her musical career eventually leads.
The official synopsis describes an online singing video attracting widespread attention and interest from executives in both Christian and country music. It also points to the personal consequences of that opportunity. For a probing reading of the project, this is its most promising tension: being recognized for a gift can create pressures that recognition alone cannot resolve. Whether the finished film develops that tension remains to be seen.
The title brings its own expectations. "My Jesus" became a major breakthrough for Wilson, reaching No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Christian Songs chart and spending seven weeks atop Christian Airplay. Turning that success into a compelling movie will require the story behind the song to carry emotional weight beyond the familiarity of its chorus.
For musicians interested in participating, the October 27 band-member listing provides the reported requirements. Kingdom Story Company also has a separate official background-actor registration page for November filming in Nashville.
An official release date has not yet been announced, according to the Gospel Music Association's October 22 update. For now, the casting call offers a concrete glimpse of the work underway-and raises anticipation about how My Jesus will portray the person behind the familiar song.
