Tenth Avenue North is celebrating Christmas with a six-song release that mixes familiar carols, seasonal nostalgia, and a glimpse behind the recording process. Decade the Halls, Vol. 1.5 is available now, and the band's announcement makes its ambition clear: enjoy the musical possibilities of Christmas while keeping the focus on Jesus.
"We've always had a little too much fun making Christmas music," the group shared on Instagram. That enthusiasm includes exploring different eras and sounds, giving songs they grew up singing a fresh treatment. But the band also raises a question that accompanies any nostalgia-filled holiday release: what should listeners take away once the seasonal excitement fades?
For Tenth Avenue North, the answer rests in the incarnation. Beneath the experimentation, the group says, is the hope of Christ's coming and the conviction that God drew near. "If we can create Joy while pointing people back to that truth, we think that's worth celebrating," the band explained.
The track list offers several ways into that message. "Joy to the World" opens the collection, while "O Little Town of Bethlehem" features Land of Color. Those familiar titles sit alongside "Ghosts of Christmas Past" and "A Visit From St. Nick," giving the release a playful seasonal character as well as an explicitly devotional one.
Two other selections make the project particularly intriguing. "O Holy Night - Live from Kansas City" brings a concert recording into the collection, while "Pure (a voice memo)" closes it with a format listeners would normally associate with an idea captured before a finished studio production. Their inclusion invites curiosity about the different settings in which the band's Christmas music takes shape.
The announcement's strongest point is its connection between joy and purpose. Tenth Avenue North presents musical playfulness as a way to draw attention toward the Christmas story, asking familiar songs and festive memories to carry something beyond atmosphere.
