Dan "The Duke" Davis, a founding voice of ESPN Radio, has died at 84. ESPN confirmed his passing on Wednesday. No cause of death has been shared.

Davis began his broadcasting career in 1962 at WEMJ in Laconia, New Hampshire, and joined ESPN Radio when it launched in January 1992. From 1999 he became one of the network's best-known SportsCenter update reporters. He retired from his regular ESPN Radio role in 2011.

He was best known for a single call. Davis called Doug Flutie's 1984 "Hail Mary" touchdown pass in Boston College's 47-45 win over Miami.

Tributes poured in from across sports media. Former colleague Mike Tirico wrote, "Prayers to all those who were lucky enough to have Dan in their lives." Scott Van Pelt and other ESPN colleagues also paid tribute, with one calling him "a great mentor" and "an absolute gentleman."

Over his career, Davis covered the Super Bowl, the World Series, the NBA Finals, the Olympics and more than 50 PGA Tour events.

JubileeCast extends its prayers and condolences to Davis's family, friends and colleagues.
