Prince William joked that he tried to "move" Travis Kelce out of his family selfie with Taylor Swift during a surprise appearance on The Graham Norton Show, which aired on October 23.
The 44-year-old Prince of Wales discussed the June 2024 photo, taken backstage at Swift's Eras Tour show at Wembley Stadium in London. He celebrated his 42nd birthday that night, and the selfie also included Prince George and Princess Charlotte. The photo went viral and was the first image Swift publicly shared featuring herself and Kelce together.
William said he hadn't appreciated the significance of the picture until recently. He added that Kelce kept coming back into the frame, and he couldn't work out why. He said he wanted it to be just himself, Swift and the children.
Swift shared the group photo with the caption "Happy Bday M8!" The official Prince and Princess of Wales account separately posted a photo without Kelce. Swift and Kelce married earlier this summer.
William's friendship with Swift goes back further. It dates to 2013, when she performed at an event for the homelessness charity Centrepoint. That night, Swift, Jon Bon Jovi and William sang "Livin' On a Prayer" together. It was a moment where a song about holding on to hope met a cause built on compassion for people without a home.
William mainly appeared to promote the Earthshot Prize, in a special Earthshot edition of the show. Cate Blanchett, Hannah Waddingham and Robert Irwin were also guests.
