The One, a Christmas faith drama starring Martin Sheen and Jana Kramer, arrives in theaters the first week of November. Fandango lists a Friday, November 6 opening, while the distributor's initial announcement cited November 5. Movie Insider describes it as a limited release in select theaters in major markets.
What is The One about?
When 18-year-old Hawk ages out of the Chicago foster system, he sets out to see the lighting of the country's largest Christmas tree, known as "the One." Carrying only his guitar, he faces possible homelessness and a harsh winter alone until he meets Jefferson, a mysterious traveler, and Alexis, a runaway teenager grieving her twin sister. The film is billed as a quest for faith, hope and healing.
Who is in the cast?
Besides Sheen and Kramer, the cast includes Olivia Sanabia, Nick Zano and Noah Redclay. Lisa Arnold directs, and Erin Elizabeth Cook, who also stars, produced it with Adam Ropp. The film also marks the feature debut of Ashlyn Tomlin, daughter of singer Chris Tomlin.
Why the date matters
The release falls during National Homeless Youth Awareness Month. The filmmakers have partnered with For Others, the nonprofit founded by Chris Tomlin and his wife, to raise awareness of the child welfare crisis in America.
