Grammy-winning Southern Gospel singer Guy Penrod is asking for prayer after revealing a serious health condition during an October 26 appearance on Mark Lowry's #JustWhenever livestream.

Penrod, 63, described a condition involving blood production but did not publicly identify the diagnosis. According to CBN News, the former Gaither Vocal Band singer spoke candidly about the challenge while emphasizing that he and his wife, Angie, are facing it with faith.

The Christian Post reported an additional detail about the medical options Penrod discussed.

"There's only one potential fix for it, and it's a bone marrow transplant," he said.

The report does not establish that a transplant has been scheduled. The precise diagnosis and a treatment timetable remain undisclosed in the reports reviewed.

Despite the seriousness of his situation, Penrod encouraged listeners to respond with prayer rather than fear.

"We all serve the same God," he said, inviting believers to bring his name before the Lord.

Lowry responded by praying during the broadcast, asking God for healing and for wisdom for the doctors caring for his longtime friend. Penrod also reflected on Jesus' healing of the man with leprosy in Matthew 8 before praying for viewers facing difficulties of their own.

The conversation also revealed how the experience is reshaping Penrod's daily priorities. He spoke about life's brevity, the importance of releasing grudges, and his desire to slow down and live more intentionally with his wife. Even while discussing his own needs, he offered prayer for others seeking encouragement, strength and provision.

Penrod's connection with gospel audiences stretches back decades. Gaither's official biography records that he joined the Gaither Vocal Band in 1994, becoming a defining voice in the group. He and Angie are parents to eight children.

Fans and churches are encouraged to remember Penrod, Angie and their family in prayer-for healing, peace, strength and wisdom as they navigate the days ahead.
