Sony Pictures has released a trailer for the film, which brings back Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan. Sony describes it as the third and final movie in its Jumanji reboot series, following Welcome to the Jungle (2017) and The Next Level (2019).
The story follows the game's heroes as they break free of the console and into the real world. In the trailer, Johnson, Black, Hart, and Gillan appear as stiff, video-game versions of their avatars, causing chaos outside the game.
Alongside the four leads, the cast includes Nick Jonas, Alex Wolff, Morgan Turner, Ser'Darius Blain, Madison Iseman, Rhys Darby, and Danny DeVito. Jake Kasdan, who directed the first two reboot films, returns to direct.
How does it connect to the original?
The idea of the game escaping into the real world echoes the 1995 Jumanji, which starred Robin Williams.
Where can you watch it
For now, only in theaters. No streaming date has been announced, and the earlier films are on Peacock and Hulu.
Because the film opens on Christmas Day, it gives many families a movie outing to plan around the holiday. Parents may want to check a content guide before choosing showtimes.
