Candace Owens Celebrates Personal Dismissal From Macron Lawsuit, but Her Companies Still Face Claims

Candace Owens has welcomed a ruling removing her personally from the Macrons' defamation lawsuit, while disputing reports that the case concerns her claim that Brigitte Macron was born male. The lawsuit continues against two companies associated with the commentator.

Delaware Superior Court Judge Sheldon K. Rennie ruled on October 27 that the court lacked personal jurisdiction over Owens, who lives in Tennessee. However, he allowed the case against Delaware-registered Candace Owens LLC and Georgetom Inc. to remain pending. The decision addressed where Owens could be sued; it did not determine whether her statements were true or defamatory.

Owens subsequently accused reporters of misrepresenting the dispute.

"I was NEVER being sued for stating that Brigitte Macron was born a male," she wrote on X, according to The Christian Post. She argued that the lawsuit instead concerned her statements about MKUltra and alleged theft.

The Macrons' amended complaint, however, expressly identifies claims about Brigitte Macron's sex and identity among the alleged falsehoods underlying their case. It discusses Owens's "Becoming Brigitte" podcast series and accuses her and her businesses of repeatedly publishing defamatory statements about the couple. Those accusations remain allegations awaiting adjudication.

After attorney Andrea Burkhart challenged Owens's description of the lawsuit, Owens responded that the complaint's opening narrative should be distinguished from its individual legal counts, The Christian Post reported. The Macrons' lawyers, meanwhile, welcomed the continuation of proceedings against her companies and said they were considering options for pursuing personal accountability.

The case now faces another consequential question: whether the Macrons filed their claims in time. Rennie ruled that French limitation rules apply but requested further briefing on whether the relevant deadline is three months or one year. That issue could determine whether the remaining claims proceed.
