Modern Family is an American family television series created by Christopher Lloyd and Steven Levitan, first premiered on September 23, 2009 on the ABC network channel.
It is being distributed by 20th Television.
It is being produced as a situation comedy show in a documentary style called "mockumentary", where the characters are said to talk directly to the camera.
In its beginnings, it was said to have been called My American Family based on the real family experiences of the creators, but the title was later changed to Modern Family.
The story of the show centers on the family life of a character named Jay Pritchett alongside the families of his now adult children, living in the Los Angeles area.
Jay is portrayed by the actor Ed O'Neill, who was divorced and remarried to a young Colombian woman named Gloria with whom he has an infant son named in the series as Fulgencio Pritchett, alongside another 14 year old son named Manny from Gloria's previous marriage.
Gloria is being portrayed by actress Sofia Vergara, and Manny is being portrayed by Rico Rodriguez.
Jay's adult children from his previous marriage are named Claire and Mitchell in the show, whom both are said to have their own families.
The family show won several awards including, an Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series, an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for 4 times, and the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy.
It is being renewed for a 6th Season so far which will premiere this coming September 24, 2014!
