Lizzy Long Talks About The Little Roy & Lizzy Show's New Album & Her Faith
Bluegrass Gospel ensemble The Little Roy & Lizzy Show will be releasing their new album Welcome To The Show, their first recording in almost three years. The project's first single is the group's acoustic reworking of Tasha Cobbs' "God's Been Good" that features a guest appearance by acclaimed pianist Gordon Mote.
We are honored to be able to catch up with Lizzy Long for this exclusive interview.
Q: Thank you for doing this interview with us. I believe "Welcome to the Show" is the band's 11th album. This is such a milestone. What are some of the salient lessons you have learnt about making records over the years?
Patience. You go in there wanting it to sound this way... but you have to accept how the other musicians feel it too! Thaths what makes it awesome!
Q: What advice do you have for a new artist who is just starting out?
Patience, Ha! Practice! And originality. Too many people sound the same these days.
Q: You have recently signed with Mountain Home Music Company, what do you appreciate about working with them?
I have always loved the crew at Mountain Home/Crossroads. They have always believed in me. They have always answered the phone. Any questions, ideas, troubles, they are there to help' me get through it. Us.
Q: Talk to us about the title cut of the new album "Welcome to the Show." What's the song about?
Exactly what it says. The Little Roy and Lizzy Show is all 'bout entertaining. Not just great music. It's high energy, fast, sad, funny, back to high energy! When you leave you will feel as if you're ready to take on the world! That's what we strive for.
Q: You have included some interesting covers, one of them being REO Speedwagon's "Time for Me to Fly." Why did you choose to reimagine this pop song?
Well.... Goes back to being original. Although, we did do more of Dolly's arrangement. I love mixing genres, and this song has such great words and writing. Part of me feels like it's Time to Fly!
Q: Tell us more about the originals, what are a couple of songs that really stand out?
"Story Of My Life (Preacher Man)" which I wrote with Jeff Bumgardner sticks out for me... obviously cause it hits close to home. It's about folks at home I love and a bit of my own story... so. Also "God's Been Good".... just because... God HAS been good to me.
Q: You have also included a few Gospel songs, why is faith important for you?
Just like the Preacher taught me in the song... If you dont stand for nothing, then you will fall for anything. Faith is a very strong foundation of it all. Without it, nothing is possible.
