Apple's A9 Processor : A Project So Important That Apple Is Teaming Up With Samsung For The Manufacture Of Its A9 Processor
The new Apple A9 processor is expected to be produced soon and it is expected to be manufactured in 2015. Apple is expected to team up with Samsung (yes you read that right) for the additional chip manufacturing.
Apple and Qualcomm are thinking of using Samsung as soon as next year and they want to abandon Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company. This is according to Taiwanese media reports. Samsung currently builds custom processors at a plant in Austin Texas. According to the reports Apple and Qualcomm want to buy their 14 nanometer smartphone chip from Samsung rather than buy them from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company.
This is not the first time Samsung has manufactured products for Apple. There have been rumors though that the company wants to end the reliance on the company. Switching to Samsung is expected to begin in the second half of 2015 all the same.
Now it's not yet clear why Apple and Qualcomm would like to drop the biggest contract chip manufacture in the world and decide to settle for Samsung. However, this news has already affected TSMC's shares in the market. Their shares have fallen as much as 5.75% in trade compared to a 1% decline in the benchmark index.
Well with this going on TSMC is in trouble especially since the company just reported its highest quarterly profits in 8 years.
Earlier on this month DigiTimes reported that Samsung had received new trail orders from Apple for the production of the new 14 nanometer chips which are also known as the A9 processors.
