Caleb Carl Flynn, 39, a former worship pastor and past contestant on American Idol Season 12, has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of his wife, Ashley Flynn, 37, following an extensive investigation by local law enforcement.
Flynn was taken into custody on February 19, 2026, after Tipp City police and investigative partners concluded there was probable cause to charge him with one count of homicide, two counts of felonious assault, and two counts of tampering with evidence in the shooting death of his wife. Police say the case began when officers responded early on February 16 to a report of a possible burglary at the couple's home in the 900 block of Cunningham Court, where Ashley Flynn was found shot inside the residence.
Law enforcement later determined that initial signs of a forced entry may have been staged, prompting a deeper investigation involving several agencies, including the FBI and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
Flynn, who appeared on American Idol in 2013 and previously served as music pastor and worship leader at Christian ministries in Ohio and South Carolina, entered a not guilty plea during his arraignment. A judge set his bond at $2 million, and a preliminary hearing has been scheduled as the case progresses through Miami County Municipal Court.
Ashley Flynn was a respected volleyball coach and substitute teacher for Tipp City Schools, known in her community for her dedication to students, her faith, and her family. The couple's two young children were reportedly inside the home at the time of the shooting but were not physically harmed.
Tipp City Police Chief Gregory Adkins described the investigation as "complex," noting that the family and community deserve a professional and compassionate investigation into this sensitive matter. A celebration of life service for Ashley Flynn has been announced by her church community.
The case remains under active investigation as authorities continue to gather evidence and prepare for upcoming court proceedings.
