Nearly three years after a case that stunned the nation, Lindsay Clancy has appeared in court in person for the first time.

On Friday, the 35-year-old Duxbury mother was wheeled into Plymouth Superior Court as her long-awaited murder trial approaches. Clancy has been paralyzed from the sternum down since January 2023, when authorities say she jumped from a second-story window following the deaths of her three young children. Because of her medical condition, she had previously attended hearings virtually from Tewksbury State Hospital.

Dressed in black and wearing a cross necklace, Clancy spoke briefly during the hearing, acknowledging the judge while remaining largely silent. Her attorney, Kevin Reddington, confirmed that the defense is asking the court to divide the trial into two phases - one to determine guilt and a second to consider whether severe postpartum mental illness affected her legal responsibility at the time.

Clancy has pleaded not guilty in connection with the deaths of her children - 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan. A mental health evaluation by a prosecution-selected expert is scheduled for April 10, with the trial currently set to begin July 20.

Outside the courthouse, Clancy's parents voiced continued support for their daughter, describing her as a loving mother and expressing their commitment to stand by her.

The case continues to prompt difficult conversations about postpartum mental health, accountability, and the intersection of psychological suffering and the justice system. As the trial date draws closer, many are watching carefully, seeking clarity in a case that left a community grieving and a nation grappling with painful questions.
