Beloved worship leader and songwriter Brian Doerksen has revealed that he has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, prompting an outpouring of prayer and support from Christians around the world.

In a heartfelt update shared with supporters, Doerksen's family thanked everyone who has been praying and encouraging them during an incredibly difficult season.

"Your words of encouragement have been such a gift to our family and team, and we have been deeply blessed by your kindness," the statement read.

The family shared that doctors have confirmed Brian has stage 4 cancer, though they are still working to determine the specific type. While further testing continues, his medical team has already begun treatment and is also focusing on pain management.

"Through it all, we are thankful for the doctors, nurses, and medical staff who are doing everything they can to care for Brian in this very complex situation," the family added.

To help ease the growing financial burden of medical expenses, the family has launched a GoFundMe campaign and invited those who are able to support Brian, his wife, and their family during this challenging time.

Doerksen has long been one of the most influential figures in modern worship music. The Canadian singer-songwriter helped shape contemporary congregational worship through his work with Vineyard Music and later Integrity Music, penning songs that have been sung in churches across the globe for decades.

Among his best-known compositions are "Come, Now Is the Time to Worship," "Refiner's Fire," "Faithful One," "Hope of the Nations," and "Light the Fire Again." His songs have been recorded by numerous artists and translated into multiple languages, becoming staples in worship services worldwide.

Throughout his career, Doerksen has received numerous honors, including a Gospel Music Association Dove Award, multiple GMA Canada Covenant Awards, and a Juno Award for his 2006 album Holy God. Beyond songwriting and recording, he has served as a pastor, worship leader, author, and mentor to generations of worship musicians.

Brian and his wife, whom he married in 1984, have six children and have faithfully ministered together for decades while navigating the challenges of raising two sons with fragile X syndrome.

As news of his diagnosis spreads, believers from around the world are continuing to lift up Doerksen and his family in prayer, asking God to grant wisdom for his doctors, strength for the journey ahead, and peace in the midst of uncertainty.
