Gospel music icon Donnie McClurkin was honored at the 9th Annual SOAR Awards, held Monday evening at the Greenwood Oasis in Chicago, in recognition of his decades-long impact on gospel music and ministry.

The annual event celebrates excellence in gospel music, faith leadership, and media, bringing together influential artists and leaders whose work has helped shape faith-centered culture. Founded by Justin Francis and Rebecca Francis, the SOAR Awards once again gathered prominent voices from across the gospel community for a night of celebration and worship.

McClurkin, a multi-Grammy Award-winning singer, pastor, and humanitarian, received recognition for his extraordinary career and enduring influence in gospel music. For more than three decades, his music and ministry have inspired millions of listeners worldwide with songs centered on faith, hope, and worship.

"I was deeply honored to be recognized by the SOAR Awards," McClurkin said. "This moment was not just a celebration of my journey, but a reflection of the faith, community, and purpose that have carried me throughout my life and ministry."

Celebrating Gospel Trailblazers

The evening also honored several other influential figures in gospel music, including gospel pioneer Fred Hammond and Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, and radio host Erica Campbell.

Together with McClurkin, these artists were recognized as trailblazers whose contributions have helped elevate gospel music and faith-based media. The awards continue to highlight individuals who have shaped the genre while influencing communities through their message and ministry.

A Career That Continues to Inspire

Donnie McClurkin remains one of the most recognizable voices in gospel music. With a career spanning more than 30 years, he has received numerous honors including Grammy Awards, Dove Awards, Stellar Awards, BET Awards, NAACP Image Awards, and Soul Train Awards.

His music has reached audiences far beyond church walls, crossing cultural and denominational boundaries. Over the course of his career, McClurkin has sold more than 13 million albums worldwide, performing on major stages, televised events, international crusades, and global worship gatherings.

New Momentum for "Better Afterwhile"

Even as he receives honors for his past achievements, McClurkin's music continues to resonate with audiences today.

Recently, his song "Better Afterwhile" surged to No. 1 on both Billboard and Mediabase charts, sparking widespread excitement online as fans celebrated the milestone.

The response reflects a renewed energy around McClurkin's music, with listeners both longtime and new eagerly anticipating what comes next. With a new single and upcoming album titled "Finally" on the horizon, the gospel legend's influence appears to be continuing to grow rather than slow down.

For many fans, McClurkin's music remains more than just entertainment-it serves as a reminder of faith and perseverance.

As his impact expands across generations, the recognition at the 2026 SOAR Awards stands as another milestone in a career devoted to worship, ministry, and uplifting audiences around the world.
