Multi-platinum Christian artist TobyMac delivered a powerful moment of vulnerability during a recent stop on his Hits Deep Tour in Colorado Springs, sharing openly about the grief he has carried since the death of his son, Truett McKeehan, in 2019.
Speaking to a packed crowd on March 8, TobyMac paused the high-energy concert to reflect on the daily spiritual practices that have sustained him through profound loss. The artist explained that each morning he begins his day by reading Scripture and reminding himself to build his life on the promises of God rather than the shifting promises of the world.
"I try every morning to open the Word of God and say, 'Today I'm going to build my life on the promises of God,'" he told the audience. "But by the afternoon, I've often already started trusting the promises of this world instead."
The moment grew deeply personal as TobyMac reflected on the unexpected loss of his son Truett, who died in 2019 at the age of 21. Through the pain, he shared that Scripture has remained a steady refuge. Quoting Psalm 9, TobyMac reminded the crowd that God is "a safe place for the battered."
The artist encouraged concertgoers that even in seasons of grief and confusion, God remains faithful to those who turn to Him.
"God has never let me down," he said. "When you put your hope in Him, you're never sorry you did."
The heartfelt testimony resonated with fans in attendance, many of whom described the moment as one of the most moving parts of the evening. The Hits Deep Tour, known for its high-energy performances and lineup of Christian music artists, has also become a platform where TobyMac regularly shares his personal journey of faith following his family's tragedy.
Since Truett's passing, TobyMac has written several songs reflecting on grief, hope, and healing-music that has connected deeply with listeners navigating their own struggles.
The Hits Deep Tour continues across the United States this spring, bringing worship, testimony, and encouragement to audiences nationwide.
